Routines

Give recurring work a schedule without taking over the bot’s regular conversation.

Use a routine for work you want repeated: a weekly summary, a recurring check, or a regular analysis. A routine saves a prompt, an owner, and a schedule. It runs while your Mac is awake and Newton’s background service is available.

Set up recurring work

  1. Open the bot, then choose its Routines tab.
  2. Choose Add routine. Give it a recognizable name, describe the result, and choose its timing and timezone.
  3. Check the owner and whether the schedule is enabled. Use Run now when you want a one-off run of the saved routine.
  4. Review the run’s status and output. A schedule is a request to do work, not proof that the result succeeded.

What a run uses

Each routine uses a separate provider session with its owner’s current instructions, model, workspace, branch identity, and applicable Connections. It does not copy the complete regular chat history. Put essential context in the prompt or in sources the bot can access.

Your ordinary conversation remains available while the routine runs. Work may queue when a workspace or worker slot is busy. Authentication failures, denied permissions, and missing completion reports need review.

Stop this run or stop the schedule

Stopping a current run and disabling a routine have different effects. Stop cancels the current work. Disable the schedule when you do not want future automatic runs. Check both if your intention is to stop all work from that routine.

A routine for Knowledge

Knowledge’s Insights panel can set up an analyst routine to scan branch work and produce a briefing. This has its own knowledge-addition policy; read Knowledge & insights before enabling it.
